Passion Church exists for the purpose of passionately pursuing Jesus in an atmosphere of intimate worship, freedom, and ministry of the Holy Spirit, and to reach Tucson and beyond with the love and compassion of Christ. Our belief is that God desires churches to move in the love and power of the Holy Spirit, demonstrating the reality of the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God on Earth now. To this end we labor to create a church family environment that is relationship based, heals the broken hearted, ministers to the needy, ministers to our children, families and adults, and is moving in the power of the Holy Spirit through healing, miracles, signs and wonders. Our belief is that we need a balance of ministry approaches to ensure that our children, families and adults are receiving ministry in all areas of their lives to produce godly character and fruitfulness in the Kingdom.
A PASSIONATE PURSUIT OF GOD - Hunger and desire for intimacy with Him in devotions and worship (John 5:19,20; John 4:23)
RECEIVING THE FATHER'S LOVE - And giving it away to others (I John 4:10,11; Matt. 10:8)
FREEDOM IN JESUS CHRIST - Liberty and power through His life in us (Gal. 5:1, Luke 10:19)
WELCOMING THE HOLY SPIRIT - Essential for effective ministry (John 16:7-15)
THE AUTHORITY OF THE BIBLE - Our guide in faith and practice (II Tim. 3:16, James 1:22)
A HOUSE OF PRAYER - Creating a House of Prayer for all peoples (Isa. 56:7)
WALKING IN PURITY & INTEGRITY - Holiness through surrender to Christ (I Pet. 1:14-16)
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS - Compassion and mercy for the hurting and acceptance of those that come to us (James 2:13; Rom. 12:9-13)
BUILDING FAMILIES, NURTURING CHILDREN - Building up of families and the nurture and training of children, while embracing every adult believer who identifies with our church family (Matt. 18:1-10; Col. 3:12-15)
MAKING DISCIPLES - Equipping every believer for life and ministry. Multiplying and releasing people to serve in the power of the Spirit (Eph. 4:11,12)
HUMILITY IN MINISTRY - Simplicity and humility expressed in ministry that draws attention to God and not to ourselves (Jam. 3:13; I Cor. 2:2-5)
SAFE PLACE TO GIVE & RECEIVE MINISTRY - Creating an environment in which it is safe to receive ministry and to risk and serve in new areas of ministry (Gal. 5:22-26; I Cor. 12:27-31)
SERVANT LEADERSHIP - Leadership authority based on calling, service, and relationships. Titles are played down in recognition of servant leadership function. (Matt. 20:25-28)
PURSUING REVIVAL - We are the Revival Generation (Acts 2:17,18) This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of everything we value, but to give you an idea of what we consider to be of most importance. Our desire is to passionately pursue the Lord, allowing His presence and joy to be our strength, while we work together in an attitude of love to advance the Kingdom of God. We are committed to treating each other with respect and grace, as living examples of His love.
THE HOLY SCRIPTURES (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21) We believe the Bible to be the inspired and inerrant Word of God. We believe that it was written by holy men of old as they were moved and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
THE ETERNAL GODHEAD (Matthew 28:19; Mark 12:29; John 1:14; Acts 5:3-4; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Hebrews 1:1-3; Revelations 1:4-6) We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—and these three are one God, having the same nature, attributes, and perfections and worthy of the same honor, trust, and obedience.
THE DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST (John 1:1-3, 14; Luke 1:34-35; Colossians 1:16) We believe that Jesus Christ, the son of God who became man for us, pre-existed with God and in the form of God. We believe that He is true God and true man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We believe that the world and all it contains was created by God the Father (Genesis 1:1; Ephesians 3:9), through and for Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 8:6; Colossians 1:16).
THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (John 15:26; 16:8-14) We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity and is at work today drawing mankind to Christ, and is manifested within the body of Christ through His gifts and fruit in the lives of believers. We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ, to convict men of sin, and to empower the believer.
THE FALL OF MAN (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:23; 5:12; 6:23) We believe that man was created in the image of God, but that by voluntary disobedience and transgression he fell from purity and perfection to the depths of sin. We believe that as a consequence of Adam’s sin, all are sinners, inclined to evil and iniquity, and are worthy of the sentence of death from a just and holy God apart from justification in Christ.
BASIS OF SALVATION (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 10:9, 10; 1 John 4:10) We believe that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, winning pardon for all who believe in Him and confess Him as their Lord and Savior. We believe that there is no atonement for our sin apart from the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, that He is the sacrifice and propitiation for our sin. We believe that He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will judge the living and the dead.
SALVATION THROUGH GRACE (Ephesians 2:8) We believe that man can be justified only by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that apart from Christ we have no righteousness, and we must come to God through the righteousness of Christ.
REPENTANCE AND ACCEPTANCE (1 John 1:9) We believe that upon sincere repentance and a wholehearted acceptance of Christ as Lord, we are justified before God.
THE NEW BIRTH (John 3:5-7; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20) We believe that upon repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord, a regeneration and renewal occurs that constitutes our new birth. We believe that the change which takes place in the heart and life at conversion effects a newness of life in the believer that is the result of being born of the Spirit of God.
WATER BAPTISM (Matthew 28:19; Roman 6:3-5) We believe that baptism, by immersion in water, unites us with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, through the spiritual reality this sacrament effects in the believer. We believe that baptism is an outward sign of the inward work of salvation.
DAILY CHRISTIAN LIFE (Hebrews 6:1; 1 Peter 1:15-16) We believe that it is the will of God that we live a holy life, growing and maturing constantly in faith by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
THE LORD'S SUPPER (1 Corinthians 11:23-26) We believe in the observance of the Lord's Supper through the use of the bread and the juice of the vine in remembrance of Jesus. We believe that in the act of communion, the real presence of Christ is in this sacrament, causing a spiritual reality that is more than symbolic.
BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Acts 1:5, 2:4) We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an additional impartation which may be subsequent to regeneration (Acts 8:15-17, 19:1-6). We believe that the purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is to empower the believer to be a witness (Acts 1:8; 5:32), and that His empowering is after the same manner as in Biblical days. We believe that this baptism is usually accompanied by the gifts of the Spirit, such as speaking in tongues, prophecy, etc. (Acts 2:4; 9:17-18; 10:44-46; 19:1-6). We believe that this gift is presently available to all who believe (Acts 2:38-39), but is not essential for salvation or regeneration.
THE GIFTS AND THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT (1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Galatians 5:22-23; Romans 12:6-8; Ephesians 4:11-13, 30-32) We believe that the Holy Spirit has gifts to bestow to every believer. We believe that these gifts need to be exercised by faith to fulfill their divine purpose of blessing to a lost and dying world and in the body of Christ. We believe that it is the will of God that we walk in the Spirit continually and show spiritual fruit as evidence of a Spirit-filled life.
DIVINE HEALING (Matthew 8:17; 18:18-19; Mark 16:15-18; James 5:14-16; 1 Peter 2:24) We believe in divine healing of the body as part of the atoning work of Jesus Christ. We believe that divine healing is the provision of Christ to heal the sick in response to the exercise of faith, the prayer of faith, anointing with oil, the gifts of healing, or the laying on of hands.
THE SECOND COMING (Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:51-53; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) We believe in the literal return of the Lord Jesus Christ to rule on earth as in heaven. We believe that those who are alive in Christ and remain at the return of our Lord will be changed and caught up to meet Him in the air and those who have died in the faith will be resurrected and will also be caught up to meet Him.
THE CHURCH (Acts 13:1-3; 16:5; Hebrews 10:25) We believe that the Church is composed of all those who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe that it is our responsibility as believers to identify and actively participate with the local and visible church of Christ. We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ is God’s instrument to establish and extend God’s Kingdom until the coming of Christ to reign over all the earth.
CIVIL GOVERNMENT (Romans 13:1-5) We believe that the laws of the land should be upheld at all times except in matters opposed to the Word of God.
THE FINAL JUDGMENT (John 5:28-29; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:11-13) We believe that all shall stand one day before God in judgment, and there receive eternal reward or eternal punishment. We believe in the physical resurrection of both the just and the unjust for the Day of Judgment. For those who have been justified by faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on our behalf, this resurrection is for eternal life in fellowship with God. Those who are not justified in Christ are resurrected for an eternal punishment, separated from God.
HEAVEN (John 14:2; Revelation 7:15-17) We believe that heaven is a place, eternally existent, where God dwells and which the righteous inherit through Christ. We believe that God will provide a new heaven and a new earth (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1).
HELL (Revelation 20:10,15) We believe that hell is a place of eternal separation from God and torment for all who reject the Lord Jesus.
EVANGELISM (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21; James 5:20) We believe that Jesus gave His Church the Great Commission to win souls and make disciples. We believe that Christ wants the members of His Church to carry the Gospel into the entire world, to every nation and ethnic group.
TITHES AND OFFERINGS (Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:7; Hebrews 7:8) We believe that the method ordained of God for the support of the Church and the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ is through the giving of tithes and freewill offerings.
WORSHIP (John 4:24; Psalm 150) We believe that the "acceptable" and "true" worship is prescribed by God Himself in His Word. This entails individual and corporate expressions of praise, thanksgiving, and worship.
CHURCH GOVERNMENT (1 Peter 5:1-5; Ephesians 4:11-16) We believe in church government to ensure order, and we believe in loyalty to those acting in rightful authority as they lead us in the Lord. We believe in the function of the five-fold ministry (Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers) which was given to perfect and equip believers so they can enter into the work of their ministry, thereby edifying the whole body of Christ.
UNITY, LIBERTY, AND LOVE We believe that in the essentials there must be unity, in non-essentials—liberty, and in all things—love.
